Put Your Hands Up…

It’s funny. I felt like God put this post on my heart to share one day after my walk, but I never did.

I was too afraid of posting anything remotely positive after arriving home and reading the headlines.

But you see–there’s this catchy song that says, “Put your hands up if you feel like having a good time” (It’s Good to be Alive by Meghan Trainor), and it sticks in your head and causes your toes to tap.

I desperately want to have a good time.

I miss my fun outings with friends. I miss singing in a live church service (and listening to the message!). I miss smiling at other adult faces, even if it’s at a grocery store.

Realizing my heart is aching for some cheeriness, each time I heard this tune, I wanted to put my hands up and silly dance around my living room.

It just makes me feel better inside.

Like most of you, over the last month we’ve been crazy quarantined, meaning…we haven’t picked up food at a restaurant, and we’ve limited our grocery shopping to reduce the risk of the infection. This should make me feel better since we’re taking necessary precautions. Right? But some days my mood dips.

Not fun.

So, I’ve decided to try to keep a smile on my face because there are a lot of fears I could focus on.

I have two options:

1. I can sit at home reading news articles, and focus on the potential threat of catching this sickness

or

2. I can find something positive to do. We’re home together. We can play music and dance and ride bikes through a neighborhood we’ve never ridden through before, we can make homemade fondue, paint the bathroom, play Settlers of Catan…you get the idea.

So, yes. I’m cranking up this fun song and putting my hands up because I feel like having a good time. (And I realize this is from The Peanuts Movie and isn’t a Christian song, so I’m making my “Put your hands up” to mean I’m raising them to Him, believing He holds my future. Because He does.)

I know you’re believing for the same miracle I am, that God sees the cure to Covid-19, He knows it’s out there and He’s leading the scientists and doctors to discover the solution. I’m believing for the best, believing today is going to be a good day.

So put your hands up with me, because we feel like having a good time, put your hands up and find something positive to do today.

PS Please know I’m aware some are bravely fighting this sickness, and I’d love to pray for them if you post their name below! Also, I’d love to add your upbeat song suggestion to this list if you comment.

Thanks for the positive reinforcement! The song that always has me dancing with my arms lifted to heaven is The War by Leeland. The battle belongs to the Lord and He’s already won!!
